    2017-2018 оқу жылында Шымкент қалалық білім бөліміне қарасты –129 жалпы білім беретін мектептерінде – 177 256 оқушы білім алуда.
    Жазғы маусымда демалыс пен қамтылуы тиіс 1-10 сынып оқушыларының саны – 156 379 оқушы. Бұл көрсеткіш өткен оқу жылымен салыстырғанда 9 785 оқушыға артып отыр. 
    Оның ішінде - көп балалы отбасы балалары - 15 082, аз қамтылған отбасы балалары – 9 266, жартылай жетім балалары - 4 899, жетім ата-анасының қамқорлығынсыз қалған балалар - 789. 
    Жалпы саны – 30 036 бала әлеуметтік тұрмысы төмен отбасы балалары. Бұл барлық бала санының 17% –ын құрайды
    Аз қамтылған отбасылардың балаларын қала сыртындағы лагерлерде демалдыру мақсатында білім бөлімі тарапынан Қазақстан Республикасының «Мемлекеттік сатып алу» туралы Заңының талаптарына сәйкес ашық конкурс өткізілді. Нәтижесінде: Оқушылар сарайына қарасты «Ақсу» лагерінде 1200 оқушы, «Арман» лагерінде 4041 оқушы («Арман-1» лагерінде 2021 оқушы, «Арман 2» лагерінде 2020 оқушы), «Үшбұлақ» лагерінде 1000 оқушы, «Машат» лагерінде 1000 оқушы демалатын болады. Жалпы 7 241 оқушы демалады. Бұл әлеуметтік тұрмысы төмен отбасы балаларының 24 %-ын құрап отыр.
    Қала сыртындағы лагерлермен қатар, мектеп жанындағы мектеп алды алаңдары жұмыс жасайтын болады. 
    113 мектеп жанынан - 11 660 бала ыстық тамақпен, 11 972 бала ыстық тамақсыз демалыспен қамтылады. Жалпы 23 632 бала мектеп жанынан ашылатын алаңдарда демалады. (15 мектепте: 10 мектепте құрылыс жұмыстарының жүргізілуіне және 5 мектепте СЭС талаптарының орындалмауына байланысты мектеп алды сауықтыру алаңдары ашылмайды). Мектеп жанынан ашылған алаңдарда оқушылар түрлі үйірмелер мен спорттық секцияларға қамтылатын болады. 
    Биылғы жылы аз қамтылған отбасы балаларының қала сыртындағы лагерлерде демалу үшін ата-анадан өтініш қабылдау ережесіне өзгерістер енгізіліп отыр. 
    Қазақстан Республикасы Білім және ғылым министрлігінің 2015 жылғы 15 сәуірдегі №198 бұйрығының 14-қосымшасына 2017 жылғы 25 желтоқсандағы №650 бұйрыққа сәйкес өзгерістер енгізіліп, стандартқа сай аз қамтылған отбасыларына қала сыртындағы лагерлерге жолдама беру халыққа қызмет көрсету орталықтары арқылы жүзеге асуда. Бұл дегеніміз ата-аналардың өтініштері халыққа қызмет көрсету орталықтары арқылы қабылдануда. Бүгінгі таңда 5 265 ата-анадан өтініштер қабылданып, қала сыртындағы лагерлерге жолдамалар берілді.
